Queens University of Charlotte Examines What Millennials and Managers Expect
Soft skills like communication play a larger role in today’s job skills gap.
Charlotte, NC (02/26/14) – Workplace communication dynamics are changing along with the workforce. Millennials now comprise 36 percent of the workforce, and as a greater number of them begin their careers and advance, there emerges a conflict between the soft skills managers expect and what the new generation brings to the table. Queens University of Charlotte has published an infographic compiling research that highlights the juxtaposition of what millennials expect out of their careers compared to the expectations of their managers. Among the largest concerns for both groups, communication is evidently first and foremost.
- Thirty-nine percent of employees worldwide feel people in their organization don’t collaborate enough.
- Forty percent of millennials would pay out out-of-pocket for social tools that increased efficiency.
- Only 31 percent of baby boomers use social tools for collaboration.
- In terms of feedback, 80 percent of millennials prefer real-time feedback over traditional performance reviews.
