The overarching goal of the Knight School of Communication is to develop graduates who use their communication skills as engaged citizens, advocates and leaders in their communities. This combination of civic engagement and new media innovation is unique among the School’s peer institutions and a hallmark of our educational programs and community initiatives.
To reach those goals, we are dedicated to teaching students the best practices in the communication field and to share them with their employers, employees and fellow professionals. Our communication courses provide solid grounding in liberal arts and communication theory and history, as well as practical training in traditional and emerging media, with an emphasis on ethics. This results in graduates who are able to sift through our information-rich society to evaluate, create and deploy effective messages in a variety of platforms, forums and environments.
This range of abilities allows graduates to take advantage of professions in an extremely wide variety of industries and fields. Knight School of Communication alumni have gone on to successful careers in journalism and the media, advertising, public and community relations, law, human resources, government and education.
