36 TOTAL CREDITS REQUIRED

Develop advanced nursing skills in research, informatics, theory, and health policy, and apply them as a nursing leader with one of three leadership tracks offered in the Queens University of Charlotte’s Master of Science in Nursing program.

Study under industry leaders who remain active and engaged in the field, and benefit from personal mentorship in small class sizes.

MSN coursework consists of 12 classes—six core classes followed by six classes specific to the Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse Administrator, or Nursing Informatics track. Those interested in the RN-MSN option will take an additional two courses prior to the core courses. This online program can be completed in as few as two years.

RN To MSN Bridge Courses

A Practice Discipline: Focuses on the discipline of professional nursing. Concepts relevant to nursing are explored. Prerequisite: Registered Nurse enrolled in RN-BSN track.

This course examines partnerships that support and improve equitable, population health outcomes: local, community, regional, and global. Prerequisite: NRN 310. (Offered every term.)

Core Courses

This course examines the process of curriculum development in academic and practice settings. Theoretical and evidence-based foundations of teaching, learning, and assessment for multiple learning styles. (Offered every term).

Develops a comprehensive knowledge of how health policy is formulated and how it impacts clinical practice and healthcare delivery.

Focuses on developing an understanding of the concepts relevant to health care informatics and the use of information technology in healthcare organizations and explores the uses of computer applications to support clinical and administrative decision making.

Focuses on selecting statistical procedures for analyzing data and interpreting the statistics most commonly reported in health care literature. Also included will be data analysis techniques for qualitative data often seen in health care and educational settings.

Focuses on critical analysis of research reports, research methods, and the relationship between theory, research, and evidence-based practice.

Integrates advanced concepts of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment within the contexts of individual, family, and populations through the use of exemplars in course content. (50 clinical hours)

Clinical Nurse Leader Track

This course examines advanced concepts of administrative roles and functions in organizations.

Focuses on the theory and application of advanced nursing therapeutics and evaluation of their effectiveness in improving client health outcomes. Content includes pharmacotherapeutics, teaching and learning theory, risk anticipation analysis, and evidence supporting both traditional and complementary therapies. (50 hours clinical practice.)

Focuses on the management of processes and resources within the clinical care environment with the goal of achieving optimal outcomes. The clinical components are designed to provide students with an opportunity to participate in clinical microsystems managements as part of a management team. (50 hours of clinical)

This course examines systems design life cycle, workflow support/analysis, data collection, and applying technology to education, clinical simulation, workflow, and professional development. Prerequisites: NUR 662, 50 clinical hours. (Offered at least twice per academic year.)
This course is an immersion experience during which students implement the CNL role. Prerequisite NUR 652 (150 clinical hours/precented).
This course is a continuation of the immersion experience during which students implement the CNL role. Prerequisite NUR 672 (150 clinical hours/ precented)

Nurse Administrator Track

This course examines integration of systems, data warehousing, technical standards, archiving principles, backup processes, analysis, decision support systems, and project planning in varied environments. Prerequisite NUR 665 (50 clinical hours)

This course examines advanced concepts of administrative roles and functions in organizations.

This course prepares student to apply essentials of financial management to nursing leadership roles in varied systems.
Prerequisites: NUR 661.

This course examines systems design life cycle, workflow support/analysis, data collection, and applying technology to education, clinical simulation, workflow, and professional development. Prerequisites: NUR 662, 50 clinical hours. (Offered at least twice per academic year.)

This course is a continuation of the immersion experience during which students implement the nurse administrator role. Prerequisite NUR 674 (150 clinical hours/ precented)

Nursing Informatics Track

This course examines advanced concepts of administrative roles and functions in organizations.

This course prepares student to apply essentials of financial management to nursing leadership roles in varied systems.
Prerequisites: NUR 661.

This course examines systems design life cycle, workflow support/analysis, data collection, and applying technology to education, clinical simulation, workflow, and professional development. Prerequisites: NUR 662, 50 clinical hours. (Offered at least twice per academic year.)

This course is an immersive experience during which students implement the informaticist role. Prerequisite NUR 660 (150 clinical hours/ precepted)
This course is a continuation of the immersion experience during which students implement the informaticist role. Prerequisite NUR 678 (150 clinical hours/ precepted)
